Today's Monologue
Dearest Harrumphers,
If you've heard my show this week, you may have picked up on my ire at leftists bemoaning a lack of "consensus of thought." Their aggressively obsessive drive to censor and deprive us of news that negatively impacts their worldview is beyond troubling. Authoritarian single-party rule will end the American experiment. Marxism and Communism are our enemies.
That's obvious, and I'm confident we are on the same page regarding our would-be Orwellian overlords.
Let's step back and apply that same disdain for "consensus of thought" to our founding. Our country was founded on the presumption of diversity and tolerance, not a "consensus of thought." It's counter-intuitive, but our country has never been unified in thought. Nor are all our hearts unified in our love and respect of God and His laws.
We are the United States of America. We were founded with the understanding— in writing— that current and future States would retain their identity and culture by maintaining the right to govern their affairs on those matters not enumerated in the Constitution. The 10th Amendment in the Bill Of Rights explicitly reserves powers to the States as long as those powers were not delegated to the federal government. Among other powers, this includes creating school systems overseeing state courts, creating public safety systems, managing business and trade within the State, and managing local government.
As you know, the death penalty is not addressed in the Constitution, so each State has considerable leeway to write its laws.
These powers are referred to as reserved powers.
And thanks to the Supreme Court overturning Roe v. Wade, States again have the right to pass abortion laws.
Let me stop here for a moment and reaffirm my commitment to preserving life.
